AMRRC Members Briefing August 6, 2012
(For the sake of brevity I removed commentary concerning the 1113 (current employees) AMR filing)
As retirees we do not have a vote ahead of us. We only have an 1114 Committee in place that is charged with trying to protect our retiree benefits. Management filed their Section 1114 court filings last month noticing the Court that they fully expect to be relieved of responsibility for retiree health care.
AMR’s stated position with the Bankruptcy court declares none of AMR’s current retirees (both union and non-union) have a vested right to retiree health benefits. AMR management wants the court to move quickly on this matter and a pre-motion teleconference took place on Tuesday, July 31. The court docket now shows another conference has been scheduled for August 8 regarding management’s push to abrogate their responsibility to fund retiree medical.
Retirees have told us they feel helpless and at times isolated during this bankruptcy process. At some point in the near future we hope the 1114 Committee will be able to communicate directly with the retirees who are waiting to hear what, if any, ramifications will be for our present retiree medical plans. AMRRC has forwarded communications to the 1114 Committee counsel offering our services and we stand ready to help in any way we can.
This last week the AMRRC Board met and decided to publicly offer a free service to any interested AMR retiree. Our organization’s chair, Paul Mazzara, has a once a month on line service (LIVE CHAT) for retirees to ask individual questions of concern about retiree benefits.
The next live chat is scheduled for August 9, 2012 from 7 to 9pm Central Time. Each of you are invited to participate if you so desire.
You may either read this live conversation or ask Paul directly your own question(s). This online chat usually last for 1 to 2 hours. Here is your chance to have a free resource at your disposal in the weeks/months ahead. Watch for an AMRRC announcement on the Home Page of this website each time there is a scheduled call. You can join the call by going to http://www.rbassociation.com/Communication.html
AMRRC’s continued goal is to offer fact based information to all AMR retirees throughout this very stressful period. As a retiree you are NOT alone as we all ‘wait out’ this bankruptcy process. We urge each retiree to continue to research the facts of this case and continue to communicate your concerns and questions with your organization
The American Airlines Retirees Committee.
