No, that's not a Heavy Metal Rock Group, that's how the senior member (to my knowledge) of this forum spent part of his Memorial Day. See a news clip (with an appearance by Captain Randy in the last 15 seconds) HERE.

The comments concerning the Condor’s Memorial Day activity are greatly appreciated and have been conveyed to those responsible

Many might find a bit of background information about the leader of that organization of interest....The most eloquent speaker on that TV interview (and handsome Commanding Officer of the Squadron) Chris Rushing, who took over after our founder Col. Richard Sykes flew west a few years ago, has done a remarkable job.

His mother-in-law, a former TWA F/A supervisor, was contacted this morning in an attempt to update Chris’s military activity.......Still active, after 37 years in the California Guard,
she mentioned that to date, she believes he has been deployed seven or eight times. (Considering his many years working for American Airlines during this period of time, Chris has kept rather busy.

To attempt to qualify this story appearing on a TWA forum, it should be mentioned that Mrs. Sykes was chosen to represent our airline onboard the Inaugural Boeing 707 flight in July, 1957, and was called back in 1972 to take that 707 back to the Smithsonian Museum(along with her husband Col. Dick Sykes who proudly displayed for many years, a picture of himself sitting next to our Captain Eddie Ricketyback’s namesake.) For years JoAnn Sykes served as head of TWA’s “Speakers Program”..and was instrumental in arranging the Memorial Fly-by for our Flight 800 service here in LA.

Another ex-TWA F/A supervisor (who shares my last name) was, at the time, the first and only female member of the Condor’s Search and Rescue flight operation. That lady received credit for 3 (three) finds, all of which were prior to the introduction of the ELT’s.

So, when this old guy dropped by the Van Nuys airport this past Monday and found the gate unlocked, just as it was about 45 years ago, many mixed memories returned. Some very sad, some very wonderful....The TWA connection brought a smile.
