Sad news this morning, Lois called and informed me that our dear friend "Hoot" (his real name was Harvey Glenn Gibson) made his final departure at approx 5:30 am. Apparently his heart finally failed and he passed peacefully in his sleep.

Lois is planning a "Celebration of Life" for Hoot sometime in the near future and will advise when plans have been finalized. For those who haven't met Lois, I would like to say that she is one of the nicest ladies I have had the pleasure of meeting. She has stuck by Hoot for the past 22 years through thick and thin, a truly remarkable woman.

I met Hoot in Chicago before I was hired by TWA and we've been friends for over 50 years, both being based in ORD and LAX and flew together numerous times with TWA and in private aircraft. I have never shared a cockpit with a finer aviator or gentleman!

We have been neighbors in Las Vegas since I moved here in 1971, and his hangar was just down the taxiway from mine at Boulder City airport where we spent many fun filled days.

Recently Hoot was in the process of becoming a QB, he had attended several meetings with me prior to his latest illness and was warmly received by all members.

I will truly miss my good friend, as I'm sure we all will. I'll forward further information as it develops.

Thanks for posting this, Sam. Hoot would probably enjoy sharing the attached video with his friends on this board:

Rest in Peace, Captain Gibson

To All,

Even at this late date " Hoot" is remembered by people within the Las Vegas Metro Police Department from his days as a Reserve Policeman.

Flew with Hoot many times while I was a F/O in LAX. He was sure fun to fly with. In addition to being his co pilot I was upon occasion drafted as his designated driver. He was also fun on layovers.

Hoot conversed with me a number of times concerning 841. He was adamant, even emotional in his denial that he or his fellow crew members were in any way responsible for the incident. I have no doubt to this day that he was telling the truth.

Hoot was a great driver of airplanes-a man that really enjoyed life-a fun guy to be with. Sad that he had to end life with such difficulties. He will obviously be remembered by all that crossed his path.
