Ten to one, Captain Abend is already reassuring his passengers by doing "Just what the doctor would order"

It would be my guess that both he and his copilots are spending a few extra moments "pre-flighting their passengers in the gate areas or club rooms.

A smile and a warm handshake and the unspoken TRUE words; "If you like your pilots, you can keep".......well, we'll skip the attempt at plagerism.
